Botox Q & A

What are Botox and Dysport?

Neurotoxins Botox and Dysport are the most popular cosmetic injections in the United States and are FDA-approved to temporarily reduce the appearance of:

  • Moderate to severe frown lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Brow furrows

These injections block the nerve impulses that move the muscles under your skin that create the worn-in lines and creases, which, in turn, weakens the muscle. The skin over the weakened muscle relaxes, and your wrinkles soften and often disappear.

Many people worry that neurotoxin injections may make them look frozen or prevent them from making facial expressions. However, Botox doesn’t affect the nerve, leaving muscles related to other expressions unaffected.

Are Neurotoxins safe?

They are safe when highly trained professionals like those at Westlake Laser and Aesthetics administer the injections. In addition to wrinkle therapy, Botox is also used to treat many medical conditions, including chronic migraines, excessive sweating and body odor, and eye misalignment, and have very few restrictions.

Before recommending Botox as a cosmetic treatment for your lines and wrinkles, Westlake Laser and Aesthetics has you come to the office for a complimentary consultation to review your aesthetic goals, evaluate your skin, and discuss your medical history.

What can I expect during my Botox treatment?

Your injections at Westlake Laser and Aesthetics take 10 minutes. Your aesthetic specialist uses a very small needle limiting discomfort.

You may notice some redness at the site of your treatment, but you can cover any of these side effects with makeup. Your provider only requests that you not massage the area. Though there’s no need for downtime, but you should not engage in any strenuous activity for at least two hours.

How long does Botox last?

Typically they last 3-5 months. As soon as you notice the effects wearing off, you return to the office for another round of injections. Repeated Botox injections may help improve the longevity of your treatment, sometimes keeping the lines and wrinkles away for up to eight months.
